Remembering 9/11

Today is the 8th anniversary of the terrorist attacks upon America. I remember exactly where I was and how I found out about these horrible events. I was in a study hall. Minutes after the first attack happened, I was watching the coverage on CNN there in the library at my school. I remember thinking how horrible these events were, and I was scared to even think that there might be more attacks. Ironic thing is...there were.

September 11th changed the way the myself and many other people...not just Americans perceived this gift of life. It showed me that we are not invincible and are never positive about what today or tomorrow holds. On this day eight years ago, many people lost their lives by doing ordinary and everyday things in which was the norm.

Minutes later, hijackers took over another plane which they flew into the US Pentagon. I do not know about you, but that really scared me. Again, because these are catastrophic events which lead many people to loosing their lives. I have always admired the construction of the Pentegon and this was just as shocking if not more so than the prior events of the day.

This day eight years ago was a very scary day for many Americans, including myself. I will never forget this day intentionally, but even more so, I will always remember how "unified" America was. People were proclaiming "I'm PROUD to be an American" putting up flags and signage everywhere. It was my initial thought that this was going to bring God back into the lives of everyday Americans, but now everything is completely different. People were proclaiming "God bless America" on television and every way imaginable, but eight years later, everything is back to normal everyday life, or so it seems. This leads me to the question, why is it that only when something bad occurs, why is that when people chase after God? Why can't that be an everyday thing?

There are many "reports" out there that are saying that Bush and the Government were behind the attacks on September 11th. I think those are bogus propaganda and stupid. I do believe that there were organizations behind it, but I am not here to say the Government worked hand-in-hand to bring these attacks on the American people.

What are your thoughts? Did September 11th change you? Do you think that things have returned to how they were before or gotten worse? How do you think America can once again be "unified?"

My prayers are with all of the families that lost loved ones in these attacks and in wars defending our great nation. You paid the ultimate price for freedom. For that, I thank you.

Have we forgotten about 9/11?? We said we would never forget...Have we lived up to that?

"Common Sense"

As many of you all may know, I highly respect Glenn Beck. He is a knowledgeable guy, who nails political theories and concepts on the head. So, today...I picked up his book "Common Sense" and I began reading it tonight. I would recommend that you pick it up also, if you are confused about what is happening to what was a great country. We are quickly loosing everything that the founding father's established, and it is up to us to get a hold of it and stop it while we still can.

For those on Twitter, I will be using #gbcmnsense when posting about this book. Let's use that...unless you know of another.

Pick up the book...if you care for this country. Liberal, Conservative, Libertarian...Green party. Whatever. Go pick it up. You will be better for it.

Agree or Disagree?

A teacher I had for a Bible class in high school always taught me "You must learn to agree to disagree agreeably." If we could make an amendment to the golden rule, I think this would be great to add on along side of the existing rule of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

We all have different beliefs, convictions and standards. A person should have reasons for what he believes, but I can only assume that some folks do not. If you are a person who does not have support for your beliefs, let me encourage you to step out and figure out what you believe.

In my experience, I have specific political and spiritual beliefs. These are very controversial, for one I have very Conservative beliefs both policially and spiritualy. I believe in the soverignty of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe in the sanctity of life in all people, I believe in small Government and many many others. Those are just a few. These all tend to be "hot topics" and can be very controversial.

Do we have the license to ridicule someone for their own beliefs or opinions? Is it right to publicly bash someone for their difference of beliefs? The answer to these questions and many others are NO. We are allowed to disagree with others, but you have to do it in respect for those people. We all believe what we believe for a reason. Please show respect and disagree agreeably.

Letter to David Letterman 2

**This blog is written after Letterman's apology to Sarah Palin and her daughters. Read the original blog here.**

David,

I heard on Greta van Susteren's show this evening that you apologized for your comments to the Palin family for your jokes that were made last week. I must applaud you for fessing up to your mistake, and I hope that it is a learning experience for you, if not more.

Any man can make a mistake, but when that same man fesses up to his mistake it shows that he sincerely cares. I hope that you have learned that in your comedy to watch what you say. A joke may look sufficient on paper, when in reality is can hurt the reputation of those people in which the joke is based around. It is one thing to joke about a political leader, but taking that joke to an extreme level and bring in a family member is completely uncalled for.

I thought that it was necessary to submit another letter to you because you apologized for your joke. I sincerely hope that you have learned something valuable from this encounter. I know for a fact that I have. I have learned to watch what I say. The littlest joke can impact the lives of many.

Good luck with everything.

Letter to David Letterman 1

David,

Occasionally I happen to catch your show, but I would not be classified as your number one viewer each night. You tend to have some funny things to say that crack me up. One of your shows this last week, in one of your jokes ridiculed one of Sarah Palin's daughters. In the joke, you referenced Palin's daughters getting "knocked up" by one of the Yankees. This comment was completely obscene and inappropriate.

I realize that you are a comedian, and you and your writers choose somewhat popular people to vocalize about in your comedy, but your choice of jokes for this skit was completely inappropriate. The comedian card only goes so far. Answer this for me, since when is it okay to ridicule the family member of someone who ran for office? Would you do the same to Chelsea Clinton? What about using the same type of comment for the daughters of Barack Obama, Malia Ann or Natasha? How about using a joke of the same league and caliber about Michelle Obama? I tend to believe no. Why? You would be completely ridiculed by the liberal media, probably loose your job from CBS and have to answer to Barack.

You would also choose not to ridicule them because they are of your same liberal party. How dare you say stuff like that about fellow Democrats. I am writing this letter to you to bring this to your attention. Palin has herself said that she does not want a formal apology from you to her, but to the women to America. I urge you to do both. Apologize to both of them as well as to make the same type of crack toward Michelle Obama.

Let me ask you another set questions. Who gives you the right to sit there and ridicule a Republican? What if you had said that about a fellow Democrat? What is your deal with Palin anyway? Is it because she is a respectable Republican leader and you are scared that one day you will have to show her some sort of respect if she gets into office? What if a Republican said some immature comment as you did to lets say...Michelle Obama? They would be ridiculed for that remark. Why is there a double standard for liberals? Liberals can get away with murder, but if a Conservative does the same . . . hell will freeze over. That is very unfair.

David, I said before that I sometimes catch your show, but after your choice remarks and inappropriate comments, I choose to NEVER watch your show again and I will encourage others to do the same. I ask you to make this right. I hope that you will loose all support from any Conservative who watches your show.

God is in Control

The Memorial Day weekend services at First Orlando were absolutely top notch! I was there to witness most of them, and going into the services, we were unsure of what was going to happen. These services are very special to most people in the congregation and especially our Senior Pastor, David Uth. Changes were made to each service minutes before the Sunday services. It is amazing to see what a little prayer can do. That is proof that God is in control. If we were to do these services out of our flesh we would fail each time. This Memorial Day, let us celebrate in thanks those who have fought for and served our country out of love. It takes much passion and fear to serve this country, and I am thankful each day for their service.

Also, lift up Doug Pierce, one of the worship leaders at First Baptist Orlando. He has a medical condition, but I have every confidence that God will heal him and be a testimony to His power. Doug, I am praying for you and your family. Thanks for all that you do for God's ministry. Your church family loves you. Have a blessed memorial day! -

-Ken
