Fathers Day 2009 Blog

Fathers Day. To all of the fathers out there that have made a positive influence, thank you. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone, but my father has been one of the most influential persons in my life. I see it more now than ever . . . everyday I become more of the man that my father is. I think like him and have a general overview of life just as he does each day. If you told me that . . . lets say when I was a teen, I would have laughed in your face. Now that I have grown up, been "on my own" for a bit and seen the real world, I saw that my father is very wise and worthy of modeling my life after. I have always respected my father, but I do more today than I have every done before. Thank you, Daddy for everything. It is much appreciated.

On the flip side, I do feel as though those who have not had a father figure in their lives is missing a blessing. I know there is not much the child can do about it, but if you are one of these fathers, I would encourage you to patch things up with your son and/or daughter. The child would covet nothing more than to hear from you or just talk with you on your day.

Letter to David Letterman 2

**This blog is written after Letterman's apology to Sarah Palin and her daughters. Read the original blog here.**

David,

I heard on Greta van Susteren's show this evening that you apologized for your comments to the Palin family for your jokes that were made last week. I must applaud you for fessing up to your mistake, and I hope that it is a learning experience for you, if not more.

Any man can make a mistake, but when that same man fesses up to his mistake it shows that he sincerely cares. I hope that you have learned that in your comedy to watch what you say. A joke may look sufficient on paper, when in reality is can hurt the reputation of those people in which the joke is based around. It is one thing to joke about a political leader, but taking that joke to an extreme level and bring in a family member is completely uncalled for.

I thought that it was necessary to submit another letter to you because you apologized for your joke. I sincerely hope that you have learned something valuable from this encounter. I know for a fact that I have. I have learned to watch what I say. The littlest joke can impact the lives of many.

Good luck with everything.

Letter to David Letterman 1

David,

Occasionally I happen to catch your show, but I would not be classified as your number one viewer each night. You tend to have some funny things to say that crack me up. One of your shows this last week, in one of your jokes ridiculed one of Sarah Palin's daughters. In the joke, you referenced Palin's daughters getting "knocked up" by one of the Yankees. This comment was completely obscene and inappropriate.

I realize that you are a comedian, and you and your writers choose somewhat popular people to vocalize about in your comedy, but your choice of jokes for this skit was completely inappropriate. The comedian card only goes so far. Answer this for me, since when is it okay to ridicule the family member of someone who ran for office? Would you do the same to Chelsea Clinton? What about using the same type of comment for the daughters of Barack Obama, Malia Ann or Natasha? How about using a joke of the same league and caliber about Michelle Obama? I tend to believe no. Why? You would be completely ridiculed by the liberal media, probably loose your job from CBS and have to answer to Barack.

You would also choose not to ridicule them because they are of your same liberal party. How dare you say stuff like that about fellow Democrats. I am writing this letter to you to bring this to your attention. Palin has herself said that she does not want a formal apology from you to her, but to the women to America. I urge you to do both. Apologize to both of them as well as to make the same type of crack toward Michelle Obama.

Let me ask you another set questions. Who gives you the right to sit there and ridicule a Republican? What if you had said that about a fellow Democrat? What is your deal with Palin anyway? Is it because she is a respectable Republican leader and you are scared that one day you will have to show her some sort of respect if she gets into office? What if a Republican said some immature comment as you did to lets say...Michelle Obama? They would be ridiculed for that remark. Why is there a double standard for liberals? Liberals can get away with murder, but if a Conservative does the same . . . hell will freeze over. That is very unfair.

David, I said before that I sometimes catch your show, but after your choice remarks and inappropriate comments, I choose to NEVER watch your show again and I will encourage others to do the same. I ask you to make this right. I hope that you will loose all support from any Conservative who watches your show.

The Know-It-All Bully

There are many types of people that rub my fur (if I was a cat) the wrong way. A person that has the know-it-all attitude. Believe me, I believe people can have much knowledge about topics . . . but when you mix arrogance with that knowledge, you are doing something wrong. I know many people that are experts at their craft and I highly respect those individuals. Being arrogant and a bully is no way to gain respect by anyone. You may think people have respect for you, but at the end of the day, things are much different that what you think.

Then, to add on top of that, when that person puts themselves in jokes that they are not a part of, that is just a formula for failure.

Through my experiences and heeding the advice of my father and many other influential people in my life, bullies are fed upon your emotion. The more attention you give them, the more fuel they will have for condemning you. The proper way to deal with bullies is to not. Let them be . . . walk away and be the bigger person. Obviously, they aren't going to because they are the bully! They have chosen the low road, so you as the better person should chose the high road.

What do we do from here?

Step 1 - You do not feed the fire by being abrasive toward the individual.

Step 2 - You do not allow the person to know that he effects you (where applicable)

Step 3 - Be professional and move on. Arrogant people will receive their judgment and will eventually find out the hard way what they have been doing and living is not an appropriate style.

In the heat of the moment, you can not let these people effect you. We should and Christ sets the example that we should be the bigger person. When this person effects you, just move on and continue doing what you know is right. They will learn on their own time. It is not your responsibility to justify anything.

#worshipwednesday

It is here. This is basically a "re-blog" (RB, for those Twitter users...)

On Twitter, we have themes for specific days, such as Music Monday (#musicmonday) and Follow Friday (3followfriday) are a few examples. One of my friends is wanting to start a Worship Wednesday theme, where we proclaim specific Scriptures, songs or things God is doing in your life. Read more about it here.

What is God doing in your life? Share it. See what people are here.

The Hillsong Experience '09

A couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday night, I was able to experience Hillsong United at First Baptist Orlando. It was an amazing experience to see the collective body of Christ...some who may have never set foot in our worship center collaborate together and praise our Savior and Lord.

Before the show, I was able to help the crew setup for the event. I was surprised, the equipment they used I could have probably operated flawlessly. It is all of the same toys that I am learning in my study at Full Sail. It was mind boggling the amount of gear they brought into our venue for their performance.

The worship experience was wonderful. Even though that is my home church to worship at from week to week, it is always special to have other leaders come in to lead worship.

Lets hear from you . . . Who else attended a show from Hillsong United on their latest tour in the states?

Same . . . But Different

I chuckled the other day. I went to Golden Corral and while waiting in line for my food, I began looking at all of the different people and also all of the different food items, many of which I have never even had! But aside from that people cling to the types of food they enjoy, while probably hate the stuff that I enjoy!

The same goes for little things. Clothing, styles, colors, computer, colognes (ever wonder why guys love guys cologne and can't stand girls and vice-verse-a?? How ironic. But that is another blog topic) and etc. Is it the simple fact that we as a person "prefer" this over that? Or is it more of the idea that we as people do not want the same likes as other people?

The same also goes for our talents and careers. Why aren't we all leaders? Why aren't we all doctors, pilots or teachers? Well, please understand this, we all have to be different in order for this world to work. We have all been given different passions for a reason. The same goes for God. He has programmed us all differently . . . to be wired for a specific task for His kingdom. If we all work together, imagine how much better the church could be?

That is a humbling thought.

Then...Comes the Rain

The weather in Florida never gets old. It is always a surprise . . . on one of the most beautiful days of the year those clouds come creeping in and you have your afternoon showers. After a time of rain, the rain stops and the clouds clear as the sun begins shining through. The wonderful day continues, with a nice cleansing wash on everything. The plants have been nourished, the air is clean and everything is a new.

Our lives . . . are the same. We could be having the best experiences in our life. Then, out of no where, we are inundated with "rain" or something that we may not look very positively upon. Some people see that as a bad thing. I do not see it as such. If you have black you have white. If you have hot you have cold. If you have peace you have paid. The two work together very well. You have to have bad times in order to appreciate and treasure the good times.

Trust me when I say that the bad times shall with time cease. The outcome may not be the way of your pleasing, but remember all things work together for good. Remember who is in charge. Not you, God.

Living Out Your Dreams

As I grow older, the only thing that I regret is not doing something when the time is right. I am sure that many of you can relate.

I received an e-mail from my Grandfather earlier in the week. It was one of his forwards that he blesses me and many others with daily. It was a very interesting story. In a nutshell, it is an elderly lady who begins taking college classes. When asked by one of the younger students why she was going to college, she responded with something to the extent of she had always dreamed of coming to college, so now she is finally doing it. She also said that the one thing that older people regret is dreams they did not follow through with during their life, making it to late to do anything about it now.

It took a couple of days for that to sit in, but this morning that line really spoke to me. I thought on my way to lecture this morning, how many opportunities have I passed up that may be to late to do anything with? How many dreams have I passed up because I was not totally dedicated?

Monday evening I was chatting with a friend of mine. I mentioned to him a dream that I had, that had been developing recently. He was very encouraging with the idea and thought it was great. I have also mentioned this "dream" or vision to other people and they have been very encouraging as well. Sometimes you need that type of support in order for a dream to become a reality.

Through the years, I would like to think that I have not let too many dreams slip away. My move to Orlando was probably the biggest dream that I have had in a very long time, and that was tough, but it has been great since I have been down here studying. Another major dream I had was to serve at a church again. It had been a couple of years since I had done that, but I was able to work through some stuff I was battling with and had lunch with the Media and Communications Pastor at First Baptist Orlando. Every since that day back in early 2008, I have been serving in the broadcast ministry at First Orlando.

Let me encourage you to read this post, and take it to heart. Please, do not let you most cherish dreams of today become a big regret later on in your life, because you were too scared or afraid to pursue them.

The Killing of the Baby Killer

As many of you may have already know, Dr. George Tiller, who remained as one of a few of America's late term abortionist was gunned down in the his church, Reformation Lutheran Church. Read the complete story here.

This is a very controversial issue, because it is mixing politics with religion, and morals. I am a firm believer in the Holy Bible, which states that murder is wrong. Deuteronomy 5:17 states "
You shall not kill."

While I do not support any form of abortion, is it right for one man to take the life of another man he believes is living wrong? No. Absolutely not. Although I am a firm believer that even though this killer murdered 60,000 fetus' that never had the chance to live life on their own, I do not believe it was right for Scott Roeder to take the situation into his own hands and end the life of the corrupt and mentally ill Doctor. I do rest assured that Tiller will not be around any longer to continue his murdering lifestyle, but I also can believe that others will arrogantly doing so in his footsteps. It is just part of this growing liberal minded society we live in.

Two wrong do not make a right by no stretch of the imagination. If Tiller was still alive, I would hope that the extent of the law would punish him to death. With how corrupt and biased our current administration is, if I were a betting man, I would bet that their left-wing and non-Bible supporting policies would have let the murdering of baby fetuses continue among thousands more in his life. Tiller will be punished for his choice of living a murderous lifestyle.

Should we as Christians be supportive of baby killers? No. Should we as Christians be supportive of killing baby killers? No. Is their Scriptural support for capital punishment? Yes. Should we as Christians state our opinions on the matter? Yes. Why? Not doing so would be an abomination (no pun intended) both to God and our beliefs. "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything." I believe that it is our requirement as fellow Believers in Christ to take a stand for our beliefs. This does not mean arrogantly rubbing our opinions in the face of others that do not believe along with us, but we should take the more mature approach.

I feel awful for the thousands of innocent babies that Tiller has murdered throughout his professional career. Just the thought of 60,000 lives that would have been added to the American population is just mind boggling. What if Tiller had been aborted during his mothers pregnancy? How would this world or country be different?

If you were a judge in a court room, how would you sentence Roeder? More to come...
